And So It Begins...

Hello! Well here I am, in Richmond International Airport, about to embark on my study abroad to Galway, Ireland. Wow. It's finally here. It seems so strange--we've been talking about study abroad since last March, if not before, and now most of my classmates at the University of Richmond are preparing for their own adventures, if they have not already been adventuring in foreign lands!

From Richmond, I head to Philadelphia. Then I board US Airways flight 722 at 8:45 p.m. for Dublin, Ireland. Now, I love "Amurrica" (pronounced in that proud, Southern accent, of course), but I am excited for Ireland, commonly referred to as "the motherland" due to my Irish heritage.

Many people have told me that I'll fit in very well in Ireland since I have red hair, or affectionately known as "ginger". I am sure that there will be many instances involving these "gingery locks", for better or for worse. Whoa, that sounds like wedding vows. Awkward...

Well that's all for now! Sorry for the boring beginning, but then again, how exciting is taking off your shoes and packing three three-ounce bottles in one quart-sized plastic zip-lock bag just to go through a little metal detector for security? Thrilling, isn't it?

I think that the current state of weather in Richmond is foreshadowing my typical weather pattern for the next four months. Weather for today: Cloudy. Temperatures around 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Chance of rain: 50%. Perhaps the weather is representative of everyone so devastated that I'll be gone for so long? Nah. Instead, perhaps it is just supposed to prepare me for wet and rainy days and nights. All right! Glad that Patagucci (Patagonia) rain slicker and Bean Boots will work well for me!

I'll end this inaugural blog post with a Gaelic saying:

"Is glas na cnoic i bhfad uainn."
Distant hills look green.

How appropriate.

Goodbye, America. Hello, Ireland, the Emerald Isle!

Dia dhuit!
(May God Bless You!)
